Why the Cayman Islands Are a Digital Nomad’s Paradise

Digital nomadism has grown exponentially in very recent years for a few reasons, the top two main ones being the pandemic and the prevalence of remote work. In 2021, there were about 35 million digital nomads around the globe– and that number is very likely to grow even more in 2022 and beyond!

But what exactly is a “digital nomad” anyway? A digital nomad is a person who works remotely and lives “nomadically,” typically traveling to different locations for various increments of time. These workers typically conduct their business from coffee shops, coworking spaces, and their AirBNBs/hostels/hotels around the world.

As you might have already gathered, being a digital nomad comes with an abundance of benefits! Many of those who work in this manner make their own schedules, can get a fuller experience of new cities and cultures, meet like-minded people, and live an overall more peaceful life.

For those who are considering or are already a part of the digital nomad lifestyle, you may be looking for a new “base” and we’re here to tell you that you should highly consider making that the Cayman Islands! We are a Cayman real estate company that knows these islands like the back of our hand– and even have experience working remotely throughout!

So why exactly are the Cayman Islands a digital nomad’s paradise?

So why exactly are the Cayman Islands a digital nomad’s paradise?

The Fastest WiFi in the Entire Caribbean

As a digital nomad, one of your main concerns should be the WiFi and internet speeds/connectivity of the location you’re headed (you need to successfully work, after all). Fortunately, the Islands have 4G coverage and the WiFi there is the fastest in all of the Caribbean!

How fast is the WiFi in the Cayman Islands? The download speed is an average of 16.12 Mbps (high-resolution video conferencing requires around 6Mbps). It’s also extremely stable, so you can work with comfort, ease, and peace of mind.

Great Places to Work From (Coworking Spaces and Cafes)

When you don’t want to simply work in your hotel room or Airbnb, you can head out and work from other locations!

Coworking spaces are great options for those who want a change of scenery, a place to meet like-minded people, attend events, rent out meeting rooms, and/or a location to really hone in on work! Grand Cayman specifically has a few coworking spaces to check out: Regus, readyspaces, and Parcel 110.

Would you rather set up shop at a cafe? Check out Grand Cayman’s Daily Grind Cafe, Cafe Amazon, Cafe del Sol, Water & the Elephant, and Bluestone Lane Grand Cayman Cafe.

Extremely Safe

Another key point about travel in general, whether it be long-term or short, is the safety of your destination(s). When considering living the digital nomadic lifestyle, you need to be sure that your laptop and other important items will be safe, whether at your own place or while you’re out and about.

Fortunately, the Cayman Islands are extremely safe so you can be quite at ease working remotely there and when simply wandering around!  The political climate is perfectly stable.

Stunning Weather Year-Round

The Cayman Islands can provide you with eternal summer, as they enjoy 300+ sunny days year-round and only take on about 55 inches of rain per year (most of it falls during the rainy season which is May through October). What else would you expect from such a gorgeous tropical paradise?

Unique and Thriving Culture

While being a digital nomad in the Cayman Islands, you can experience a unique and thriving culture day in and day out. The culture is exceptionally diverse, boasting 113 nationalities of Cayman Islands’ residents. The culture altogether has been highly influenced by Afro-Caribbeans from Jamaica, colonists from Great Britain, and immigrants from the USA.

Because of the influence of various cultures over the Islands’ history, there is another aspect that is highly enticing to both visitors and locals: the food! There are countless options available, from Caribbean seafood dishes to American fast food! No matter what your taste buds are calling out for, the Islands will answer.

Great Balance of City and Nature

Finding an ideal balance of both city life and pristine nature can be difficult in most places of the world. However, the Cayman Islands make it exceptionally easy! Enjoy the surprisingly peaceful city life of George Town on Grand Cayman then hop over to another part of the same island or one of the Sister Islands and be in the midst of nature’s grandeur.

Coral reefs, white sand beaches, nature preserves, botanical gardens, ample flora and fauna– the list goes on and on!

Countless Things to Do on All Three Islands

As a digital nomad, you want to perfectly balance work and living life to the fullest! Fortunately, the Cayman Islands can check all of your boxes, including the provisions for unforgettable experiences!

When you are a digital citizen or nomad in the Cayman Islands, there is a whole lot that you can experience and thoroughly enjoy (then never forget!). There is an impressive number of best places to scuba dive and snorkel, for starters– but that’s not all. Try out these other fun things to do in the Cayman Islands:

  • Explore the capital, George Town
  • Go hiking on the Mastic Trail
  • The Turtle Centre
  • Dolphin Discovery
  • Try various water sports and activities, like scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, boating, and more
  • The Cayman Crystal Caves
  • Elizabeth II Botanic Park
  • Bioluminescent Bay
  • And plenty more!

We understand: you’re a nomad! You want to travel and explore the world. If you ever feel the need to scratch that “travel itch,” then you can easily access other international destinations via the airport on Grand Cayman!
