The Cayman Islands are located 480 miles south of Miami, 149 miles south of Cuba and 166 miles northwest of Jamaica at 19º N, 84º W. The total land area is 101 sq. miles – about 1.5 times the size of Washington, DC. The Cayman Islands are low-lying limestone based islands surrounded by coral reefs. Grand Cayman is approximately 22 miles long and 8 miles at its widest point. Cayman Brac is 14 miles long and 2 miles at its widest point. Little Cayman is 10 miles long and 1 mile at its widest point, with a very flat topography. The highest elevation in the country is The Bluff on Cayman Brac at 141 ft. and the highest point in Grand Cayman is 60 ft. at High Rock, East End. The islands are situated on a major submarine ridge that parallels the Cayman Trench, which is more than 4 miles deep and is located 4 miles to the south.
